"Even the birds sing more sweetly in Summertown" goes an Oxford saying. And Summertown, the trendy suburb which is home to the Galaxie, is a perfect little self-contained neighbourhood. It's 1.5 miles from Oxford city centre: half-an-hour's walk, or five minutes by bus. There are also fast direct buses to the Oxford hospitals, Oxford Airport in Kidlington, the pretty Cotswold villages of Witney and Woodstock, Bicester Village shopping centre (for which we have 10%-off discount coupons), and Oxford Parkway railway station, with its line to Bicester and London Marylebone. And it's within walking distance of some University departments and colleges, Oxfam and other businesses, and schools and language centres such as Oxford High, St Edward's, St Clare's, d'Overbroeck's, Summerfields and Regent. We've had guests come for all of these: for conferences and business meetings; for treatment in hospital, or to visit relatives; to train as pilots; to shop, see London, or tour local villages; and to study English or visit children at school. For more information, please see our Location page. Some guests come for Christmas, as we are one of the few places open.

In Summertown itself, there are restaurants, cafés and a pub, plus supermarkets which open from 6am to 11pm. So if you want to eat or relax in the evening, you need go only a few steps from our front door. Summertown also has three banks, two gyms, a bookshop, clothes and gift shops, and a post, parcel and printing service. There is also an art gallery and occasional theatre called the North Wall run by St Edward's School.

We have 36 rooms, all with private en-suite shower-bathrooms, central heating, direct-dial phone, 40-channel "Freeview" TV, and free high-speed wi-fi. We also offer left luggage and a fax and message service. There are free parking spaces just outside. We serve English and continental breakfast every day, in our spacious breakfast room and lounge. The latter has a computer desk and charging points, and is ideal for light work or an end-of-day team debrief or meeting. We can arrange for long-stay guests to eat a takeaway or heat a microwave meal here.
